Description -

The Con Edison Commercial & Industrial Energy Efficiency Program provides financial incentives and cash rebates for the installation of energy-saving electric and gas equipment and technologies.

Eligibility Criteria -

Eligibility for the Con Edison Commercial & Industrial (C&I) Energy Efficiency (EE) Program is exclusively for Con Edison's electric and gas customers.

Eligibility and Customer Requirements:

  • Customers must not have previously applied for or received incentives for the same project from NYSERDA, Con Edison, or any other utility.
  • The project must occur within an existing facility, applicable to either retrofit projects or comprehensive renovations. Comprehensive renovations are categorized as either:
    • Transformations involving a change of use and extensive reconstruction of an existing building or specific area, including the complete removal of all materials and equipment down to the structural supports. Note that new constructions do not qualify for this program.
    • Reconstruction of an unoccupied structure or area, also involving the removal of all contents and equipment down to the structural framework.
  • Installation of equipment is contingent upon the customer signing and submitting a preliminary Intent to Install Letter (IOL) from Con Edison, consenting to a pre-installation inspection, and obtaining a Notice to Proceed from Con Edison.
  • The application must list the Con Edison customer of record as a directly metered commercial or industrial customer.
  • Incentives are intended for the replacement of existing, fully operational systems, except in cases of comprehensive renovations. The program does not cover maintenance, repairs, or the replacement of non-operational equipment, unless specifically mentioned.
  • The focus of incentives is on enhancing energy efficiency. The program does not support the adjustment of existing equipment sizing, except when equipment downsizing meets the criteria for early replacement due to extended life, as detailed in Sections 2.6.1 and 2.6.2 of the program documentation.

How the Program Works -

For gas and electric customers interested in improving energy efficiency, there are two available routes: the prescriptive path and the custom path. The incentive amount varies based on the type and efficiency of both the existing and newly installed equipment, as determined by Con Edison. Incentives are limited to no more than 50% of the total cost for eligible improvements or the full cost of each individual measure, with a maximum of $1 million for electricity and $250,000 for gas per annum. It is mandatory for all projects to receive Con Edison's pre-approval before commencement. Upon project completion, Con Edison disburses the agreed incentive amount.

To initiate the process, customers are required to submit a comprehensive application package. Following the evaluation of your project, you will be issued a Preliminary Intent to Install Letter (IOL), which must be signed and returned to Con Edison within 30 days, and should designate a contact for the pre-inspection visit. Con Edison then assesses the site's current conditions. After receiving a Notice to Proceed from Con Edison, which includes an incentive proposal for the new installations, the project can start. Customers have a 90-day window to finish the installation and submit the necessary completion documents to Con Edison. Finally, after a post-installation review, Con Edison sends an incentive payment to the customer.
